An award-winning journalist and writer, Nicole Cox has enjoyed a career as a storyteller, sharing the lives of ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
She now uses her skills as a public relations and media consultant, providing clients with strategic communications, media relations, freelance writing, content creation, crisis communications and media strategy.
Born and bred in Perth, Nicole aspired to be a journalist from a young age.
She cut her teeth on grassroots journalism starting her career at Perth’s suburban newspaper stable, Community Newspaper Group before moving across the country to Melbourne’s local newspapers, Leader.
Her journalistic repertoire spans several metropolitan newspapers across three states, including The Sunday Times and The West Australian in Perth, Sunday Herald Sun in Melbourne and Adelaide’s Sunday Mail. Nicole has also contributed online to Perth news sites perthnow.com.au and WAtoday.com.au.
With exceptional contacts, a nose for news and an in-depth understanding of media landscapes, Nicole is well placed to provide media advice to help grow and manage reputations.
Based in Perth, Western Australia, Nicole has a diverse client portfolio across the not-for-profit, health, aged care and property sectors and has led successful media and publicity campaigns.
Nicole has a strong network of contacts in Western Australia and nationally, which has been developed through a lengthy career in the media sector as well as several years in communications roles, both in-house and as a consultant.
As a journalist, she was the recipient of several media awards and commendations for her work, including a WA Media Award in 2011 for a feature about a country policeman who has adopted and cared for more than 40 Aboriginal children in remote communities in WA.
Nicole is professionally trained with a Bachelor of Arts in Media from Edith Cowan University and now shares her knowledge as a journalism lecturer and tutor at Curtin University.
